Family Harvest Farm is an urban farm established to employ aging out foster youth, is located in Pittsburg, and is a program of the John Muir Land Trust.   As these young adults head into the world on their own, they have a paid job that teaches them various life and job skills during their 6 to 12 month apprenticeship.

An eight person crew of our members installed a hardware cloth barrier of 1,800 linear feet around this 3.5 acre farm to keep the ground squirrels from digging into the farm and eating the delicious (to them and to the farm's customers from the community) crops.  This project and the concept and development of the farm is under the direction of the farm's founders, hands on and dedicated leaders, Jack Cortis and Jim Overaa.
